Statement on Inaction from LA County District Attorney Jackie Lacey

On October 28, 2019, the Stonewall Democratic Club adopted a resolution calling on Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey to take proactive steps towards restoring trust in her department, which has faced numerous allegations of racial bias, unfairness, lack of communication, and lack of public transparency.

Lacey was present for the general membership meeting at which this resolution was adopted and addressed these concerns, pledging publicly to meet with members of the black community in South Los Angeles and other communities of color by the end of the 2019 calendar year.  No such meeting took place within that timeframe and, at the time of this statement, no meeting has been scheduled. Stonewall is deeply disappointed that Lacey has failed to demonstrate any initiative in regaining the trust and credibility she has lost since first taking office in 2012.

Accordingly, we are calling on the District Attorney to meet with these constituents in their respective communities, as promised, and to make rectifying these concerns a priority.
